Thursday, October 30

Core 4 worked very hard today on finishing up the assignments for our Layered Curriculum unit on Ecostystems. We will finish adding our critters to their worm habitats tomorrow and be ready to enjoy a great weekend! Wednesday, October 29

Today Core 4 began their investigation with Populations! We prepared and started our worm habitats, tomorr adopted 10 little buddies! We will continue to learn about the Red Wiggler worm, how its population changes, and its importance in ecosystems.

Tuesday, October 21

Core 3 worked on their Layered Curriculum unit items which are due by this Friday. We had lots of PowerPoint building, children's book writing, video watching, and poster making going on!! We also began serious work on our science team wikis which will also involve collaboration from our partners at NC State!

Monday, October 20

Tuesday, October 14

Today we worked on completing our jobs from yesterday. We also used our Writers to create a summary of a science magazine article we read. We will continue working on these summaries tomorrow.

Monday, October 13

Today Core 4 started our unit on Population Dynamics and Ecosystems. Here was our job list today:
  1. Take the Science Attitudes Survey (this is for Mrs. Collazo's Master's research project) -
  2. Take the electronic Population Dynamics Pretest - this is kept in the Common Hand Out folder on the SLMS server.
  3. Watch the Ecosystem Introduction video and write down 5 things you learned. Pass in to the Core 3 In Box. Video is below! Remember you'll have to be using Internet Explorer to watch it!
  4. Go to BrainPop.com, log in, and watch the Ecosystems short movie under Science - Ecology & Behavior. Take the "graded quiz" after watching the movie. Email your results to Mrs. C. @ kcollazo.slms@lee.k12.nc.us


Thursday, October 9

Today we worked some more on the things we had not completed from Monday's job list. We also went over our Color Group Wiki Project. We logged onto our group wikis and can now begin adding the content we want to share about what we've learned!
We also went over and got started on our 2 week Layered Curriculum Assignments. We have choices to make, research to do, and projects to complete by October 24th. Most of our class time and a lot of home time will be spent completing our choices. The grade scale we will use is:
50 points = A
40-49 points = B
30-39 points = C
20-29 points = D
19 and below = F

Wednesday, October 1

We took notes on the steps in the Scientific Method. We also watched a short video about the Scientific Method. We will be conducting a lab tomorrow so our homework is a crossword puzzle which will help us become more familiar with the vocabulary of the Scientific Method.
